MATEMÁTICAS MONUMENTALES

Roman Gates

GOING THROUGH NORBA CAESARINA, THE OLD TOWN:

The old Roman city Norba Caesarina (Cáceres Old Town) had four main gates (“puertas”):

-Puerta del Río or Arco del Cristo (Gate to the river or Christ’s Arch), that it is the only one that remains intact nowadays.

-The “Puerta de Mérida” (Gate to Mérida, destroyed in the 18th century), the “Puerta de Coria” (Gate to Coria, demolished in the 19th century but some Roman wall rests still remains) and the “Puerta occidental” (Western Gate, that it was supposed to be near the “Foro de los Balbos” and it was demolished with its defensive tower).

We want to visit the Old Town, crossing every door with the routes (1) to (7) (read below) but without walking through any door or any route twice. Is it possible? How?

The seven routes are:

Puerta de Mérida> Puerta de Coria

(1) Ancha, Plaza San Mateo, Cuesta de la Compañía, San Jorge, Santa María, Tiendas

Puerta Coria > Puerta Occidental

Can we start from another Gate? Or must we start from the Gate to Mérida?
